Not so fast. Assembly Speaker Shelia Oliver said she would not support a deal to reform pension and health benefits for state employees. Senate President Steve Sweeney and Gov. Chris Christie are pushing the reforms, but many in the Assembly believe these issues need to be worked out through collective bargaining. Assemblyman Nelson Albano told Coastal Broadcasting that he supports reforming pension though legislation, but not health benefits.
An earlier report on Wednesday by the Star-Ledger suggested that a deal was struck by Christie and Sweeney to reform pensions and health benefits.
