Legislation has been introduced in the Assembly that would end the Council on Affordable Housing. A similar bill passed in the Senate during the spring, but the Assembly took more time to work on the bill. Housing advocates believe that the legislation will allow for towns to be able to get out of their obligation to provide affordable housing. The bill would include the 2.5 percent fee commercial developers were going to have to pay, but will be phased in.
