Gov. Chris Christie wants a bill that would end the Council on Affordable Housing passed by the end of the month. A key lawmaker says that might not happen. Assemblyman Jerry Green, who is the chairman of Assembly Housing and Local Government Committee, says he doesn’t want to rush passing the legislation and wants to make sure it is a good bill. The measure would have to pass by Green’s committee before it could be considered for a full floor vote by the Assembly. COAH is in charge of affordable housing and many lawmakers in Trenton want a complete overhaul on the system. A 2.5 percent fee on commercial builders would end at the end of this month and is apart of the urgency to push the measure through. There is a chance that an extension could be given to a moratorium on that fee.
