APARTMENT FIRE CLAIMS WOMAN’S LIFE

An early morning fire at the Channel Apartments in North ape May claimed the life of an elderly woman on Monday. Officials have not released the name of the victim, pending notification of next of kin. Town Bank fire officials said the fire was reported at 12:47am Monday as the resulty of a smoke detector alarm. Firefighters found the woman after entering her ground-floor apartment, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. The apartment complex does not have a sprinkler system.
