On Friday morning the hallways of the Douglass Memorial Elementary School on Bayshore Road in Villas were filled with smoke from a failed motor in one of the air conditioning units. All students and staff were safely evacuated and three local fire companies responded to the call. By 11 a.m. it was determined that the damage was limited to the motor of the unit and all personnel returned to the building. No injuries were reported and Superintendent George Drozdowski said he was proud of the way school staff calmly handled the situation.
