Taxing pensions is a practice that some say is hurting New Jersey’s population. Assemblyman Nelson Albano noted to Coastal Broadcasting that the state taxes pensions of public workers and many older people are leaving the state as a result. In other states, this practice doesn’t take place and it would save that individual to move, according to Albano. He told Coastal Broadcasting he is working on legislation to change this issue, especially since public workers already paid tax on their paychecks, when they working and paying into the pension system.
