The first of two steps were taken on Thursday to approving a new education commissioner in the state. Acting Education Commissioner David Hespe got confirmation from the the Senate judiciary committee. Hespe will still have to get confirmation from the full Senate but he sailed through. He was the education commissioner previously under former Gov. Christie Whitman.
