An Atlantic City Police Officer saved a man’s life who had overdosed. On Thursday at 2:19am, uniformed Police Officer Joseph Bereheiko, heard an emergency medical call about a possible heroin overdose. Officer Bereheiko was recently trained to administer Naloxone and immediately responded to the call in the 3500 block of Pacific Avenue. Within one minute of the Naloxone administration the victim, a 26 year old male, began breathing on his own. The victim then slowly became fully alert and oriented. The Paramedic Unit arrived on scene just after the victim had become fully alert; they took over treatment. This is the first incident in which a uniformed officer successfully utilized the Naloxone since being trained and equipped with the units on February 13.
