There is a new head of the police department in Absecon. John M. DeRitis Jr. is named Absecon Police Departments next Chief of Police. He will assume the Chiefs position on February 1, 2015 as Chief David K. Risley will officially retire on February 1 from the Police Department. Chief DeRitis is a lifelong city resident. He joined the Absecon Police Department in 1998 and moved up to his present rank of Lieutenant in March of 2012. Chief DeRitis has been instrumental in the Police Departments DARE Program as well as the departments annually National Night Out program. Chief DeRitis will be officially sworn in on February 5th, 2015 at the City Council Meeting at 7:00 PM.
