The latest update from the National Weather Center shows that the storm is expected to continue moving fairly quickly and should provide Cape May County will Hurricane to Tropical Storm conditions the early A.M. hours on Sunday. A hurricane warning, a flood warning, and a tornado watch are all in effect. Hurricane Irene remains a category one storm. A mandatory evacuation remains in effect and those who haven’t left yet and can are still encouraged to do so. Barrier islands remain the biggest concern with the potential of the ocean meeting the bay. Some forecasters are saying portions of New Jersey could get over one foot of rain, but that is expected more inland. Shore communities could be looking at six to 10 inches of rain.
