This year will mark the 40th year of Lower Township’s Kids Christmas. What started out in 1976 as one phone call from an upset mother, whose children’s presents were taken, has grown into a community-wide effort to help Lower Township children and families in need at Christmas time. Dottie Crawford and Jim Dietterich, both retired from the police department, have carried on this tradition of giving and spreading joy in our community. This year there are 462 kids in need, and at the moment, the greatest need is items for children ages 8-12. New unwrapped toys and monetary donations (checks can be made out to Lower Township’s Kids Christmas) can be dropped off at the Lower Township Police Station, located in the Airport Complex at 405 Breakwater Road, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. The deadline for donations is December 15, 2016.
