The New Jersey Senate voted to pass the 23 cents a gallon gas tax Friday afternoon and passed the bill onto the assembly. The gas tax, which has not been raised since 1988, now stands at 37.5 cents a gallon, still lower than neighboring Pennsylvania and New York. The tax increase will go into effect on Nov. 1st or two weeks after it is signed by the governor, whichever is later.
