The Middle Township field hockey team has secured the top seed in South Jersey, Group I. Middle will play the winner of a game between Gateway Regional and Buena Regional. Lower Cape May and Ocean City also made the tournament.
It was a big weekend for girls’ sports programs at Middle Township High School. The field hockey team clinched its first CAL National Conference championship by beating Cedar Creek, and the cross country team won a division title on Saturday at the South Jersey Open. A shutout win for the Wildwood Warriors football team Friday night. Wildwood blanked Haddon Township, 21-0 for its first win of the season. In one of the best games of the night, Mainland defeated Oakcrest, 21-14.
The Cape Atlantic League is ready for its second boys and girls’ soccer tournament. Ocean City girls is the top seed and will open the tournament against Egg Harbor Township on Saturday. Wildwood Catholic boys have made the tournament and will play arch rival St. Augustine.
The Philadelphia Phillies fired manager Gabe Kapler on Thursday. Kapler was fired after two seasons for which the Phillies did not make the playoffs, despite the addition of outfielder Bryce Harper. The Phillies are now in a competitive market for a new manager with other high profile teams, including the Mets, Padres, and Angels.

It was a great bounce back win for the Middle Township football team Saturday at Gloucester Catholic. Kenderson Cardaci tossed three touchdown passes as the Panthers earned a 28-0 shutout win.
