Mainland’s Chase Petty is heading to Minnesota. The Twins selected the former Mainland Mustang pitcher in the first round of Sunday’s baseball draft, 26th overall. Petty can throw 100 miles per hour and was the best pitcher in high school baseballl this season in New Jersey.
It’s a State Group III baseball championship for Ocean City High School. The Red Raiders knocked off Pascack Valley High School in 14 innings, 3-2, on Sunday. Jack Perry knocked in the winning run for Ocean City.
The New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association is dropping capacity limits for indoor sports, along with mask requirements. Starting on May 28th, masks will no longer be needed and as of June 4th, capacity limits are gone.
The Philadelphia Eagles made a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Tuesday. The Eagles acquired cornerback Josiah Scott and in return, they give up a sixth round draft choice in 2023 along with cornerback Jameson Houston. The trade was reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter on his social media account.
It looks like the Philadelphia Eagles will open their season on the road in Atlanta. There are many schedule leaks being reported today in advance of the official release of the NFL schedule by the league tonight at 8 o’clock. Many sources say the first game of the season will be Dallas at Tampa Bay.
Former Philadelphia Eagles star Leroy Keyes has passed away at the age of 74. Keyes lived in Indiana, and he played several positions for the Eagles, including running back, in the 1970’s. Keyes finished second in the Heisman Trophy balloting to O.J. Simpson.
A quarterback from South Jersey who took the Baltimore Ravens to an NFL championship is now a Philadelphia Eagle. The Eagles have signed Joe Flacco to a one year contract. Flacco grew up in South Jersey, went to the University of Delaware, and has a home in Avalon.
The Philadelphia Eagles have released veteran wide receiver Alshon Jeffrey and defensive tackle Malik Jackson. Both players were released in cost cutting moves. Jeffrey’s recent season with the Eagles was plagued by injuries.
A ban on interstate sports will expire on Friday. Governor Murphy has decided to remove the ban as Covid-19 numbers are improving. Outdoor interstate sports competitions may resume this weekend.
There will be no spring baseball at Wildwood Catholic Academy this year. Brian Cunniff reports on CoastSportsToday.com that there is not enough interest to field a team this year, so the Crusaders will not play baseball. The school remains committed to field a team next season.
