Wildwood Police say drug charges have been filed against a 30 year old Wildwood man following a motor vehicle stop on Rio Grande Avenue Tuesday. Police say Gabriel Acevedo-Curbelo of Wildwood was charged after heroin, narcotics paraphernalia, and a weapon was found in his vehicle. Police also recovered nearly $2,000 in cash.
The Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office has released more information about a 60 year old woman who died five days after being in the custody of Wildwood Police. Wildwood fire crews responded to a house fire early Thursday morning at 307 West Poplar Avenue. Authorities say smoke was coming from the fire which was located on the second floor. The home was unoccupied and undergoing a renovation. Damage to the building is estimated at $50,000.
Fire departments from the Wildwoods were able to knock down a rubbish fire adjacent to Cape Assist located on New Jersey Avenue in Wildwood on Wednesday afternoon. Occupants of the building were moved outside and away from the building until the fire was extinguished, in about ten minutes. The fire is under investigation.
There has been a reported death in Wildwood Police custody. The Press of Atlantic City reports that a person died in custody, but there’s no word on the gender or identity of the individual, or when this death occurred. More information is expected from the County Prosecutor’s Office.
Longtime Wildwoods businessman Joseph Catanoso has died. Catanoso was popular in the Wildwoods for operating businesses including the Wagon Wheel Florist and Gift Shop in Wildwood Crest, and managing restaurants in the Wildwoods.
