Wildwood and Cape May County officials have announced forward progress on plans to revitalize the Pacific Avenue downtown area in the city. The Pacific Avenue Redevelopment Initiative will create a new zone along the commercial portion of the street in Wildwood and encourage new investment and home ownership. Tax incentives will be provided.
Wildwood city officials have introduced a budget with a 1.5 cent increase in the local purpose tax rate. According to Mayor Pete Bryon, Wildwood is continuing the process of having lower tax increases in order to provide municipal services than in years’ past. Byron notes a $5 million growth in ratables over the past year.
Ocean Avenue in Wildwood is about to undergo a change. The City Commission meets Wednesday afternoon and is expected to approve a change to the roadway from four lanes to three. The Commission may also consider an ordinance that would result in boardwalk reconstruction and back bay improvements.

Part of Rio Grande Avenue in Wildwood will be closed Saturday evening temporarily for the Mudhen IPA 5K Race. City police say the East side of Rio Grande Avenue will be closed for only one hour from 7pm-8pm. Residents will have very limited access to their driveways during that time.
Singer Bobby Rydell has died at the age of 79. Rydell was a 50’s teen idol very well known in this area for the hit song, “Wildwood Days”. Rydell died Tuesday at Jefferson Hospital.
The Wildwood City Commission is expected to formally introduce its municipal budget today, with an anticipated approval coming in late April. City officials may also formally approve a grant application to the State to help with repairs on the municipal boardwalk. The Commission meets at 5pm.
