All events scheduled at the Wildwoods Convention Center have been cancelled through the end of April. The Center informed Coastal Broadcasting Systems today that all events are off, including the Coast Guard Ball, Fishing and Boating Expo, and Beast of the East Cheer Competition.
Wildwood will be closing its municipal buildings to the public as of Tuesday. The city issued a statement Monday saying that the buildings are being closed to the public, but city operations will continue.
Morey’s Piers is delaying its spring opening until Mother’s Day weekend. The Morey Organization announced on its website Sunday that the opening of the piers will be delayed due to the national response to the coronavirus. New safety and sanitation standards are being set in the workforce.
The Wildwood Public School District has cancelled all field trips that do not include a place other than the school campuses. School Superintendent J. Kenyon Kummings announced on the district’s website that the district submitted a home instruction plan on March 10th, shall schools be directed by the state to transition away from classroom education.

West Wildwood is coughing up another $215,000 to settle another lawsuit. The Press of Atlantic City reports today that the municipality will pay former Class II police officer Jeremy Mahwhinney. He was allegedly fired because he wrote tickets to the political allies of Mayor Christopher Fox.
More events are being cancelled due to concerns regarding coronavirus. Atlantic City has cancelled its scheduled St. Patrick’s Day parade for this weekend. The West Wildwood Borough Commission met Wednesday and decided to pull a bond ordinance that would have financed various sewer repairs in the community. A citizens’ group successfully submitted a petition drive that would have placed the issue before voters in a referendum vote.
The Wildwood public safety community is mourning the passing of retired Wildwood Fire Department Captain Mark Gose. Gose’s passing was announced on the social media page for the Wildwood City Fire Department. Gose served Wildwood for three decades before retiring four years ago.
