Wildwood officials recognized students associated with the Wildwood High School ECO club for their participation in a “Keep Wildwood Clean” initiative. The city teamed up with the students to promote the importance of disposing of trash and recyclables in the correct place. Students also participated in a beach clean up event held on Saturday.
The Wildwood boardwalk tram car starts up in about three weeks, and this summer, yes, there is an app for that. The new app is downloadable from major app stores, and riders who have the app will get their first ride for free.
The Wildwood City Commission will be holding a special meeting Wednesday afternoon. The Commission will meet to appoint a new Construction Official for the city. The previous official resigned and took a similar position in a different community. The special meeting will begin at 5:00pm.
A 78 year old man is the latest victim of coronavirus in Cape May County. The County reported only 14 new cases of the virus on Sunday. Four of the new cases are in Upper Township. Nearly 27,000 County residents are now fully vaccinated.
The Wildwood City Commission introduced a new budget Wednesday afternoon that increases the local purpose tax rate by 1.9 cents. Mayor Pete Byron says the city is turning away from out of line annual tax increases. He says the new budget includes an aggressive capital improvement program.
The Wildwood City Commission meets Wednesday afternoon and is expected to formally introduce the city’s 2021 budget. The agenda for the meeting notes that the budget is expected to be adopted at the end of April. The meeting starts at 5:00pm.
Taxes will not be going up in Woodbine for the 31st consecutive year. Borough officials announced that the new budget has been introduced, and it includes no increase in the local purpose tax rate. The budget totals about $3 million.
The Greater Wildwood Jaycees have cancelled its Easter Egg Hunt for the spring. The Jaycees made the announcement on their social media page, citing various Covid-19 restrictions that remain in effect in New Jersey.
Wildwood Police have charged a 28 year old mother of three children with child endangerment after she overdosed on narcotics. Police say Lisa Jane Griner was charged after police were asked to conduct a welfare check. Griner was also hit with various drug offenses. Her three children have been placed in state custody.
Governor Phil Murphy has committed $4 million in state money to rebuild the Wildwood boardwalk. City officials made the announcement Thursday afternoon. Mayor Pete Byron says the $4 million allocation will get this project off to a “great start”. Wildwood’s boardwalk was damaged last April during a severe wind storm.
