Despite the doom and gloom associated with the weather, the Wildwood Crest Borough Commission meeting is still on for this afternoon. The Crest announced that the meeting will be held at 5:30pm inside the courtroom on the first floor of Borough Hall.
Wildwood Crest will be the next local community to comply with a mandated affordable housing plan. The Crest Commission will meet Wednesday afternoon at Borough Hall and will hear a presentation about the new plan for the Crest before a potential adoption. The plan is mandated by the New Jersey Supreme Court.
Taxes are going up in Wildwood Crest while the sewer rates will be going down. The new tax rate will increase by a penny to 67.1 cents per $100 of assessed valuation, which translates into about a $45 annual increase in taxes. Capital projects will be funded without incurring any additional debt.
Wildwood Crest officials are seeking community volunteers to be part of a new “Green Team”. The team is being formed to help establish government principles that will help create a sustainable community. Interested residents can contact the Borough’s Business Administrator, Connie Mahon.
Motel owners in the Wildwoods have erected a billboard on Route 47 attempting to recruit basketball star LeBron James to the Philadelphia 76ers. Wildwood Crest has secured a state grant that will provide for the creation of a Community Forestry Management Plan. The Plan will help Crest officials with various tree plantings and forestry concerns in the community. The Lomax Consulting Group in Middle Township will be helping the Crest with this effort.
The Wildwood Crest Police Department has hired Bill Toland as its new school security officer. The announcement was made on the Department’s social media page. Toland retired from the Stone Harbor Police Department where he previously served as Chief of Police.
The municipal tax rate in Wildwood Crest is scheduled to go up by a penny this year. The Borough Commission will hold a formal budget hearing in three weeks at Borough Hall. The budget totals nearly $24 million.
Wildwood Crest announced that it will be holding a free bulk trash pickup day on March 7th. Crest residents will have four bulk trash pickup days throughout 2018. No hazardous materials, dirt, paint, or building materials will be permitted.
