Stone Harbor will officially hold its reorganization meeting today. Two individuals will be sworn in to Council, Bernadette Parzych and Frank Dallahan. Nominations will be accepted for president of Council and various appointments will be made.
County officials have announced that more work will begin on the 96th Street Bridge in Stone Harbor starting Monday. Structural repairs will be done to the movable span during nighttime hours, starting Monday night. That work will be done through September 30th. There will be a traffic prohibition on Monday through Thursday nights from 8:00pm-6:00am.
Stone Harbor officials will close its bird sanctuary for one week, starting on or about September 20th. The sanctuary will be shut down for five days while some invasive vegetation is cleaned up. A herbicide will be used that will enable the restoration of native vegetation.
There could be some travel delays on Stone Harbor Boulevard this Saturday evening, starting at 8pm. County officials say minor delays can be expected related to extended bridge openings to accommodate the “Festival of Lights” boat parade. A 50 year old woman from Delaware was struck and killed by a motor vehicle in Stone Harbor Saturday morning. Local police say it happened near 87th Street and First Avenue. An 18 year old Pennsylvania woman was driving a Jeep Cherokee which collided with the bicyclist. The woman later died of her injuries.
The Stone Harbor Volunteer Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire adjacent to a home on Second Avenue. The fire broke out Thursday evening and burned through the roof of the vehicle. There was a contested primary for the republican nomination for Borough Council in Stone Harbor Tuesday night. Bunny Parzych and Frank Dallahan were the winners, defeating Robert Bickford. This is essentially the municipal election in Stone Harbor as no democrats have intended to run for any of the three Council seats.

Stone Harbor could advance a measure that would result in a new lifeguard station to be built after the summer season. A motion is on Tuesday’s agenda that could award the construction of the project as early as July 6th. Council is also expected to approve various special events, and renew two liquor licenses.
Yes Stone Harbor, you can drink your water. Borough officials announced Wednesday that a temporary boil water advisory was lifted after water samples came back within acceptable limits. Stone Harbor had to issue the advisory under a state directive following a water tower maintenance project that concluded.
