Work will continue Monday on the 96th Street Bridge in Stone Harbor. County officials announced that the bridge is not able to open for vessels, and work mechanical components will be replaced. Stone Harbor’s council meeting was cancelled this week due to two members of the governing body receiving “disturbing communication” from a member of the public. The announcement was made on the municipal website; no further details are provided.
Stone Harbor has cancelled it’s Council meeting scheduled for later this afternoon. Borough officials made the announcement on their website, citing an “emergent public safety issue”. The meeting will be rescheduled for a later date.

There is yet another problem with the 96th Street Bridge in Stone Harbor. Borough officials announced that the bascule span is closed to operations due to emergency mechanical issues. Vessels can pass underneath the bridge, but it cannot be opened. This condition is expected to last about three weeks.
There was a minor structure fire in Stone Harbor Thursday morning. Fire crews from Stone Harbor and Avalon responded to a fire at an outdoor shower on Sunset Drive. Charles Jones will be named the interim Director of Public Works for Stone Harbor Tuesday. Jones will replace Grant Russ, the longtime director who is retiring. Stone Harbor is also expected to appoint a fireman during Tuesday’s meeting; it starts at 4:30pm.
Stone Harbor is scheduled to introduce its municipal budget on Tuesday. A final reading on a new salary ordinance will also occur on Tuesday. Council may also approve a new professional services agreement with Triad Associates.
Stone Harbor’s council meets on Tuesday and is prepared to approve a resolution hiring a coastal consultant. Douglas Gaffney of Mott MacDonald may be named as the new consultant.
