34 year old Johnny Morgan of Camden has been charged with aggravated manslaughter in connection with the killing of an Atlantic City lifeguard. Authorities say Morgan caused head injuries to 53 year old Andrew McGarrigel back on November 3rd. McGarrigel died nearly three weeks later as a result of his injuries.
Due largely to the recovering economy, the State’s public employee pension fund has hit its highest value in three years. NJ.com reports that the fund is now worth $76.3 billion in assets. New Jersey has struggled to put money into the fund during past budgetary years.
The city of North Wildwood has posted voluminous information on its municipal website regarding the dispute between the city and a group that has managed the Hereford Inlet Lighthouse. Primate Point is now open at the Cape May County Zoo. County Freeholder Marie Hayes and other officials were on hand Wednesday for the new primate exhibit that includes three exterior habitats and five indoor dens. Construction on the new area began nearly one year ago.
Cape May County Acting Prosecutor Rob Johnson held a forum Wednesday designed to help educate veterans on how to avoid jail time if they are charged with a minor, non-violent offense. A new statewide program will begin on Friday that will assist veterans. Local state lawmakers also attended the presentation.

Governor Christie plans to attend hearings by the United States Supreme Court on Monday that will address New Jersey’s push for legalized sports betting. Christie says he is cautiously optimistic that the Court will look favorably upon the request. The Christie administration has fought for legalized sports betting for the past six years.
Governor Christie took shots at former President Barack Obama during an event at a drug treatment facility in Newark on Wednesday. Christie told reporters that the epidemic did not start on the day President Trump began his four year term, and challenged reporters to tell him anything President Obama to address the national crisis.
The Middle Township Committee will hold its reorganization meeting on New Year’s Day. During the meeting, republican Tim Donohue will be sworn in to another three-year term in office. During the meeting, official business will be conducted including the selection of the Mayor.
A well known Ventnor businessman has been charged with allegedly stealing money that was earmarked for hurricane relief victims in Puerto Rico. Michael Einwechter has been accused of soliciting funds for storm victims and keeping the money. The Press of Atlantic City reports that Einwechter was charged on Wednesday, and his truck was confiscated.
