The body of a 12 year old boy was found in a Burlington County lake. Authorities say the boy was fishing with a friend at Sylvan lake when he jumped into the water Thursday afternoon and did not resurface. The boy’s body was recovered nearly three hours later.
Smoking may be prohibited on all beaches in New Jersey if a measure approved by the Senate Environment and Energy Committee becomes law. The Committee voted Thursday on a bill that would prohibit smoking on all New Jersey beaches. Some beaches already restrict smoking; this bill would prohibit smoking on beaches statewide.

A sure sign of summer’s arrival..parking meters get turned on in North Wildwood on Tuesday. City police issued a notice on its social media channels saying that the meters will remain on through the last Sunday in October. Meters are active between 9am and 3am in the entertainment district.

The World Series of Birding will be happening this Saturday in Cape May County. The event allows competitors the opportunity to find the largest number of bird species in a 24 hour period. Its the 35th anniversary of the event, held by the New Jersey Audubon’s Cape May Bird Observatory.
Patrick Callahan will continue in his role as the superintendent of the New Jersey State Police. Governor Phil Murphy decided to give the job to Callahan, who was appointed by former governor Chris Christie. Callahan must still be confirmed by the New Jersey Senate.
Public workers could now lose their benefits and pensions if they are convicted of some new offenses. A new bill approved by lawmakers now adds harassment, sexual assault, and lewdness to the list of offenses that can cost employees their retirement benefits. Assemblyman John Armato of Atlantic County sponsored the bill.
