Cape May County reported 37 new cases of coronavirus on Sunday. Only Lower and Middle townships experienced double digit new cases on Sunday. Nine of the 16 communities in the County experienced no new cases of the virus in the past 24 hours.
A 17 year old boy from Vineland was shot in Atlantic City Christmas night. City police say the shooting took place on the 1700 block of Atlantic Avenue. The suspect is still being sought by law enforcement.
Cape May County has launched a new program to help reduce the isolation of seniors during the pandemic. The campaign starts this month and will continue through next April. Various wellness check-ins will be conducted by phone by the county’s Division of Aging and Disability Services.
New Jersey reported 5,095 new cases of coronavirus on Christmas Day. State officials also confirmed 51 new deaths. Cape May County remains one of the counties least affected by the virus.
A winning Jersey Cash 5 lottery ticket was sold this week at a Shoprite supermarket on the White Horse Pike in Hammonton. Lottery officials say the ticket is worth over $529,000. The jackpot had climbed for four consecutive days without a winner.
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy put out an advisory Thursday regarding United Airlines passengers who are coming to Newark Liberty International Airport from the United Kingdom. Murphy says United customers must present proof of a negative Covid-19 test obtained within 72 hours of departure. Murphy says he strongly discourages all non-essential travel at this time.
New Jersey has confirmed 80 new coronavirus deaths on Christmas Eve. State officials say the total number of cases during the pandemic is just shy of 450,000. There were over 4,800 new positive cases reported Thursday.
Congressman Jeff Van Drew believes President Trump is right in opposing the Covid relief bill that is packed with other government spending. Van Drew announced on social media that he is calling for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to return Congress to Washington to vote on a bill to “get this right”.
Bennett Enterprises, Inc. of Sea Isle City has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The Daily Journal reports that the filing is seeking protection for unsecured debts in excess of $1 million. The company owned and operated LaCosta Lounge and Deck Bar on Landis Avenue. It closed for good in September.
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection is requiring all anglers to use circle hooks for the catch and release of striped bass in New Jersey waters, as of the first of the new year.
