State Police will be out in force during the holiday weekend. Last year, there were seven people killed in motor vehicle accidents during the Memorial Day weekend. Traffic enforcement details are being increased, and more than 150 extra troopers will be working to target aggressive driving, dwi’s, and other matters.
Beach Drive in Lower Township will be closed next week as a contractor conducts final paving operations. Governor Phil Murphy pulled out of a Thursday evening radio program on public radio one hour before airtime because a particular interviewer was involved in the show. Murphy cancelled his show because a reporter would not be pulled from the interview panel. Murphy has been previously criticized for not answering questions from the media.
The Wildwood Catholic girls’ softball team advanced in the South Jersey playoffs Thursday by knocking off Holy Spirit, 13-1. Ocean City High School’s postseason baseball run ended Thursday. The Red Raiders dropped a 4-1 decision to Seneca to have their season ended. Brandon Lashley struck out 16 for Ocean City, allowing only two hits.
2018 should produce a pretty active hurricane season for the Atlantic seaboard. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration say we should have a normal or above normal hurricane season, with a good likelihood of 10-16 named storms this year. Hurricane season begins next Friday.

A massive bus fire caused delays on the Garden State Parkway Thursday near milepost 116. Two dozen passengers got off the bus safely before it completely burned. Southbound lanes on the Parkway were closed in that area Thursday, but they will be open for inbound holiday shore traffic Friday.
