If you drive Monday, chances are you may run into a county paving project. New paving projects will begin this week on major county roads, including Corson’s Tavern Road, Bayshore Road, and Fulling Mill Road. Paving projects have been delayed due to the wet weather conditions this spring.
All spending and new hirings have been frozen in state government. The move was made over the weekend by Governor Murphy in anticipation of another government shutdown at the end of the month. The move was made so spending from one part of the budget cannot be shifted to another part as budget talks continue.
Governor Phil Murphy has extended the Urban Enterprise Zone designation for select communities, including Wildwood, through the year 2023. Murphy also re-established zones in five cities, including Bridgeton. The zones allow merchants to charge only half of the State’s income tax of 6.62 percent.
A 37 year old Millville man has been arrested on charges that he removed his 11-month old baby from a crib and tossed the child across a room. Police say the mother was able to catch the baby, who was not injured. Anthony Henriquez was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and other offenses.
A 27 year old Vineland man has been charged in connection with a shooting incident in Atlantic City Friday afternoon. Authorities say Leon Green is accused of shooting the man near the Manor Hotel on Pacific Avenue. Green has been charged with attempted murder and other offenses; drugs were found in his possession.
The Wildwood Catholic girls’ softball team will play Lodi Immaculate for a state championship on Sunday. The Lady Crusaders will play in their second consecutive state championship game after winning the South Jersey Non Public B title on Thursday. Wildwood Catholic is 21-7 on the season. Governor Phil Murphy alerted state agencies before the weekend that they should prepare for a potential government shutdown on July 1st unless a budget agreement is reached. The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men’s and women’s basketball championships are coming to Atlantic City. The competition will be held at the Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall starting in 2020. This will be the first time in Hall history that it will be hosting the MAAC championship games.
