A Flash Flood Watch has been issued for the Jersey Shore on Saturday. Heavy rain is expected with strong winds Saturday afternoon, and again last Saturday night, before midnight. Some heavy rain in the forecast for Saturday has cancelled a few events at the shore. Avalon has cancelled its annual clamshell pitching contest on the beach, while the Wildwood Arts Foundation has rescheduled its Art & Beer event at Byrne Plaza; that event will now take place on August 4th.
Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland is warning the public about a recent fraudulent check scam. Sutherland says during the month of July many law enforcement officials have received complaints of fraudulent checks attempting to be cashed from legitimate business accounts. Businesses are advised to check their operating accounts.
New Jersey’s beaches are going smoke-free. Governor Phil Murphy signed a bill Friday morning in Long Branch that eliminates smoking at public beaches and parks in the Garden State. Towns may reserve up to 15 percent of their beaches for smoking, if they choose to.
The beleaguered Townsend’s Inlet Bridge that connects Sea Isle City to Avalon will be closed again for a substantial period of time. President Trump returns to his golf club in Bedminster on Friday. This will be the President’s third weekend trip to the Garden State in the past four weeks. There will be flight restrictions around the northern New Jersey region for the President’s visit.
Better drink half a glass…New Jersey democratic Senator Bob Smith wants to tax your tap water in order to replace the state’s aging pipelines. Smith’s bill intends to tax you ten cents for every 1,000 gallons of tap water consumed. The bill still has to meander through the State Legislature.
The Hereford Inlet Lighthouse received a new rotating beacon light courtesy of the United States Coast Guard on Thursday. The new light replaces a unit that operated on the property from 1964 through this May, before malfunctioning. The light had been replaced by a temporary LED lamp.
