Governor Christie has signed new bills into law that clears the way for former convicts to get jobs. The bipartisan bills will shorten the time periods for which records can be expunged. Supporters say the new legislation will prevent a minor criminal offense from preventing someone from finding a good job.
An 18 year old man from Hamilton Township has been arrested and charged with stealing a motor vehicle during the early morning hours Wednesday. Isaiah Gray of Mays Landing was arrested and charged with stealing a car that was parked on Rundle Avenue. The stolen vehicle was recovered and turned over to its owner.
Ocean City’s 34th Street Bridge will be closed overnight Thursday into early Friday morning. City officials announced that the bridge will be completely closed to traffic so concrete can be poured as part of a re-decking of the bridge. The current single lane traffic pattern will resume Friday morning.
Ocean City Councilman Mike DeVileger announced that he will be hosting a meeting for the First Ward of Ocean City on January 6th at the Ocean City Free Public Library. DeVileger says various capital improvement projects for the Ward will be discussed at the meeting, with no formal action to be taken.
Jeff Sutherland will be sworn in as the new Cape May County Prosecutor on Thursday. The Prosecutor’s Office announced that Sutherland will be sworn in at the Old Historic Court House Building late Thursday morning. He used to serve as the leader of the Cape May County Democratic Party.

Atlantic City Mayor-elect Frank Gilliam held a press conference Wednesday to announce that the city will not be selling its valuable water utility. Gilliam says the authority will remain in the hands of city government. There were discussions earlier this year that the city may elect to sell the authority as a cash grab.
An Egg Harbor Township man appeared in court on Wednesday and pleaded not guilty to charges that he killed his girlfriend with a hammer last month. 36 year old LaShawn Smith was indicted on a murder charge and other offenses. 28 year old Sarah Phillips was killed by Smith, according to authorities.
A 78 year old boat captain from Middle Township has pleaded not guilty to a charge of seaman’s manslaughter in connection with a fatal boating accident off Rhode Island. Cooper Bacon offered the plea in court on Tuesday. If convicted of the charge, Bacon could reportedly face up to ten years in prison.
It was a huge win for the Wildwood Catholic boys basketball team Tuesday night in the Middle Township Panther gym.
