The three legislative seats up for grabs in our First District will very likely stay with the democrats. Democrats hold a nearly 2-1 lead in balloting in the races. If the numbers hold up, Senator Jeff Van Drew and Assemblymen Bruce Land and Robert Andrzejcak will return to office.
David Bennett and Hector Cruz are the winners in Woodbine’s election. They both ran unopposed for seats on the Woodbine Borough Council; Bennett was the high vote getter with 236 votes. There were two write ins.
Republicans may be on their way to holding on to two seats on the Cape May County Board of Chosen Freeholders. With five districts in and plenty of votes still to be counted, Will Morey and Jeffrey Pierson hold a lead over democrats Danielle Davies and Greg Wall.
Middle Township’s election for one seat on the Township Committee is nearly over. Republican incumbent Tim Donohue has extended his lead over democrat Frank Toth with four of five districts reporting. Donohue has 1956 votes to Toth’s 1,709.
Republican Bob Nolan has extended his lead over democrat Rich Harron in the Sheriff’s race, but many votes are still to be counted. So far, Nolan has 2,040 votes to Harron’s 1,887. Only five districts have reported so far.

Numbers are coming in for the Middle Township election. Early numbers show that Tim Donohue has a slim lead over Frank Toth in the committee race, 1349-1133. Plenty more votes to be counted in Middle’s election.
Dean Marcolongo will be the new Surrogate for Cape May County. The longtime Upper Township republican ran unopposed in Tuesday’s election; Marcolongo replaces Susan Sheppard who was elevated to become a Superior Court Judge.
Some early polling numbers from Cape May County give democrat Jeff Van Drew a lead over Mary Grucio in the State Senate race. With 3,199 votes counted, Van Drew holds a 2-1 lead over Grucio in an election he is expected to win easily.
