A major development project in North Wildwood opens for business tomorrow. The new Seaport Pier, complete with a swimming pool, bars, and restaurants will open Friday on the city’s boardwalk. The Pier will be operating on a limited basis until all of the work is complete.
A wayward firework may have started a fire that charred a dozen vehicles at a Vineland salvage yard Wednesday night. Fire crews were called to the yard located on West Chestnut Avenue Wednesday night to respond to the fire. Some firefighters suffered heat exhaustion while battling the flames.
Another scathing political problem reported in West Wildwood. The Press of Atlantic City reports that a former Class II police officer has sued the community, alleging that he was told not to write tickets to political allies of the mayor and instead target people who would likely not vote for the mayor in future elections. …
A 14 year old male drowned Tuesday at a park in Atlantic County. Hamilton Township Police say the teenager went under the surface of the water at the park on Weymouth Road, and never resurfaced. A dive team was able to recover the teen’s body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
New Jersey’s unemployment rate stands at 4.4 percent, the lowest it’s been in a decade. The New Jersey Labor and Workforce Development office says we are still above the national average, which is a paltry 3.8 percent. Over 4,000 new jobs were added in the state during the month of May.
Internet gaming is now a part of the Hard Rock Casino in Atlantic City. The Press of Atlantic City reports that the casino went live with online gaming Tuesday afternoon; next up will be the new Ocean Resort Casino. The Hard Rock is now the 26th legal internet gaming site in the Garden State.
There were no winners in the multi state Mega Millions lottery jackpot Tuesday night. The jackpot now rolls over to a whopping $283 million for Friday night’s drawing. $4 million worth of smaller winners were announced for the State of Florida.
Fire crews in Wildwood were called to the scene of a second floor apartment fire on top of a local gym along Pacific Avenue Tuesday morning. The fire was reported at around 8am and a fire was burning in a bedroom wall on the second floor. The fire was contained, there were no injuries.
A break in the summer heat is expected towards the end of the week. Accu Weather is calling for skies to remain dry Tuesday and Wednesday nights for various fireworks displays in communities. New Jersey is not counting on approximately $23 million in revenues from a tax on plastic and paper bags in this year’s budget.
