New Jersey Senator Cory Booker has received death threats, and U.S. Capitol Police are increasing security. The City of Newark released a statement saying that the city alerted law enforcement about the threat. Two police agencies are joining the feds with providing Booker more security.
A huge win for the Wildwood Catholic boys’ basketball team Saturday at the Ocean City PBA Tipoff Weekend event in Ocean City. Avalon’s Borough Council held its final meeting of the year last week and honored employees for various longevity of service. Earl Whildin Jr. was honored for 35 years of service; both Mayor Marty Pagliughi and Councilman Dick Dean were also recognized for their 30 years of service as elected officials.
Another closure involving the 34th Street Bridge in Ocean City Thursday night, into Friday morning. City officials say the county will close the bridge in order to conduct re-decking construction. The single-lane traffic pattern currently in effect will resume Friday morning, after the closure.
Middle Township’s small business workshop held last week was a rousing success. Township officials say more than 60 local business owners attended the meeting to learn more about low interest loans, tax credits, free marketing, and other perks for business improvement. The workshop was launched by the Township’s Economic Development Council.
Two men stole $1,400 worth of baby formula from a South Jersey Walmart, and State Police are looking for the public’s help with making the arrest. Two people have been arrested and a third is being sought in connection with the theft of toys from a Toys for Tots bin in Galloway Township. Cape May County Freeholder Marie Hayes has been selected to serve as the 2nd Vice President on the New Jersey Association of Counties. The Board advocates for the services and mission of county governments. Hayes is the only representative on the Board from our region.
New Jersey Governor-elect Phil Murphy is in Puerto Rico today to discuss hurricane relief efforts. Puerto Rico was battered by Hurricane Maria in September and recovery has been slow. More than 20 individuals are part of Murphy’s delegation, including his wife.
The annual Pinch the Grinch 5K run in the Wildwoods will be held Sunday. The run was postponed from last weekend due to a snowfall. The run will kick off at 10:00am, with registration one hour earlier.
