It’s debate night at Stockton University. Democrat Jeff Van Drew and republican Seth Grossman will be debating in a congressional debate this evening at the university. Most pre-election polls give Van Drew a double-digit lead over Grossman in the race.
New Jersey State Police are sending an emergency response team to Alabama to assist with Hurricane Michael relief efforts. Michael came on shore early Wednesday afternoon as a very strong Category 4 hurricane with maximum winds of 150mph. Hundreds of thousands of people are without power.
Some major repair work is coming to the Delaware Memorial Bridge. The Delaware River and Bay Authority announced that expansion joint repairs will be conducted beginning on Monday, and lanes leading into New Jersey, and then Delaware, will be closed during this work. Traffic delays are to be expected.
New Jersey is continuing its fight against offshore drilling. Attorney General Gurbir Grewal has sued the United States Department of Interior over the State’s unanswered request on why Florida was carved out of an offshore drilling plan, but New Jersey was left in. Local tourism and businesses leaders are sharply opposed to offshore drilling.
Some sports betting revenue in the State of New Jersey will now head directly to the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority. Governor Murphy signed a bill into law that will share the State’s taxes generated from sports betting with CRDA. Sports betting has produced nearly $17 million this year to date.
A 23 year old Pleasantville man lost his life in an all terrain vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon. City police say the crash occurred on New Road shortly after 1pm Tuesday. The deceased was pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital.

The Avalon Borough Council meets Wednesday afternoon and is expected to award a contract for the construction of a new Surfside Park next to the Community Hall. The Borough has received $2 million in County Open Space funding for the project which includes a new playground, bathrooms, green space, and entertainment stage.
