The biggest post summer celebration in Wildwood Crest happens this Saturday as the community holds its annual Seafarer’s celebration. Dozens of vendors will line Sunset Lake for the celebration, which includes plenty of live music, and is capped off by fireworks at night. Activities include a popular pirates’ show and pie eating contests.
A benefits commission will vote this week on proposed changes to the benefits that are provided to public employees. Governor Phil Murphy says the changes should save the State nearly $500 million dollars, and have the support of various unions.
Members of Cape May County’s Regional Urban Search Team have been sent to help victims of Hurricane Florence. County officials announced that the Team and area firefighters are in the Carolinas helping with victims of the storm that has so far claimed the lives of 15 people.

The County officially closed the Townsend’s Inlet Bridge between Sea Isle City and Avalon Monday morning for a major reconstruction project that will take several months. Motorists are now forced off either island to Route 9 or the Parkway to get to the neighboring community.
A water main issue in Lower Township has been cleared. Lower Township Police announced this morning that traffic has resumed back to normal following the incident that closed a portion of the roadway for several hours on Sunday.
The New Jersey Department of Transportation has received a grant in order to better collect weather data during storm events. The NJDOT has received a $322,000 grant that will equip up to 20 DOT vehicles with cameras and other equipment to better track road conditions during severe storm events.
Rain from the former Hurricane Florence will impact the Garden State over the next 48 hours. Accu Weather predicts about an inch of rain will fall in some parts of New Jersey as remnants of Florence fizzle out over the Mid Atlantic states.
A water main break caused big problems in Lower Township on Sunday. A break in North Cape May at Bayshore Road and Washington Boulevard caused a disruption in service. The MUA was finishing up repairs late Sunday afternoon.
Republican United States Senate candidate Bob Hugin will be in Cape May County on Tuesday afternoon. Hugin is expected to attend the grand opening of a campaign headquarters located on Main Street in Cape May Court House. Hugin is challenging incumbent democratic Senator Robert Menendez in the fall election.
Funeral services will be held Friday in Lower Township for the founder of the Axelsson and Johnson Commercial Fish Company in Cape May. Bror Axelsson passed away a week ago Sunday. Axelsson is survived by his wife, and seven children.
