The widow of slain Philadelphia Police Corporal James O’Conner will serve as the Grand Marshal for North Wildwood’s St. Patrick’s Day ceremony and parade on March 12th. Mayor Patrick Rosenello says Terri O’Conner has been a strong advocate for law enforcement. Their son, James Jr., has served several years on the North Wildwood Beach Patrol.
Ocean City officials will commission a study to look into a parking deck for the resort. Mayor Jay Gillian announced that the study comes at the request of downtown business members and boardwalk merchants. Gillian announced that a shuttle system will return this summer.
Gaming revenue continues to surge in Atlantic City. The Division of Gaming Enforcement announced that the December revenue for the casinos was $404.1 million, which is nearly 30 percent higher than one year ago. Internet gaming revenue accounted for more than one quarter of the total revenue.
Cape May County’s rate of transmission of coronavirus continues to slow down. County officials say the rate has dropped to 1.05, which still means for every person contracting the virus, slightly more than one person gets it transmitted to them. Four additional deaths have been reported in the past week.

New Jersey reported 106 new deaths and over 20,000 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours. New Jersey’s seven day average of cases is beginning to drop a little. Governor Murphy says he’s hopeful this shows the peak has occurred.
23 year old Luis Rivera of Vineland was shot and killed Thursday night after he left a Wawa convenience store located on Park Avenue and Delsea Drive. NJ.com reports that Rivera died at the scene, and the shooting does not appear to be a random act.
Former Wildwood Catholic boys basketball star Taj Thweatt has entered the NCAA transfer protocol and will leave West Virginia for Coastal Carolina. CoastSportsToday.com’s Brian Cunniff reports that Thweatt played one and a half seasons at West Virginia and will be eligible to again play at the start of the 2022-’23 basketball season.
27 year old Jamal Preston of Egg Harbor Township has admitted to setting a house fire in Ocean County while three people were inside the residence. The fire took place during the summer of 2020 in Lakewood. Preston used a liquid and an open flame to start the fire.
