The Cape May County Zoo’s female snow leopard has died. County officials announced Sunday that Himani was peacefully euthanized following a battle with cancer. Himani was born in 2003 and came to the County Zoo six years later from the Knoxville Zoo. She had four litter of cubs.
The boys basketball team at Lower Cape May Regional High School has picked up a game, and it will be broadcast live on WCZT. Lower Cape May will battle Pleasantville, with the game tipping off at 5:30pm on the Coast. Live video will be streamed on CoastSportsToday.com.
The professional baseball journey for former Lower Cape May Regional star Matt Szczur continues. Szczur has signed a minor league deal with the St. Louis Cardinals to add some depth in the outfield. Szczur has been invited to spring training.
New Jersey reported 1,798 new cases of coronavirus on Sunday, which is significantly lower than many previous days. There are 15 new confirmed deaths. To date, New Jersey has vaccinated 1.3 million residents with nearly 1 million first doses being provided.
February 22nd. That’s the date the Cape May County Library system will open its doors to patrons again. The Library announced that buildings will be limited to 35 percent of their capacity per gubernatorial executive order. Patrons will have 30 minutes to browse shelves, and up to one hour for computer use.
There were two dozen new cases of coronavirus reported in Cape May County Sunday. Cape May Point, Stone Harbor, and West Wildwood continue to have zero reported cases of the virus. Cape May County has the second lowest case total per capita from February 4th-11th.
Icy conditions contributed to a 19 vehicle accident on the Garden State Parkway Saturday evening. State police say the accident took place in the southbound lanes around 5:30pm. That section of the Parkway was closed for three hours as the scene was cleared.
Cape May’s city council meets Tuesday evening and is expected to hold a public hearing on a $5 million bond ordinance for the construction of a new fire station. North Wildwood will introduce its municipal budget on Tuesday. City Council will meet to introduce the city’s budget, and to adopt the budget for the Wildwoods Boardwalk Special Improvement District. North Wildwood will also appoint a deputy financial officer.
