Four juveniles have been charged with committing hazing as part of the high school wrestling program at Schalick High School. The juveniles are accused of aggravated assault and other offenses. The juveniles allegedly forced another youth into a shower and attempted to assault the individual with a broomstick. State Police continue to investigate.
You retire from Congress, you get part of a beach named after you. A portion of the Brigantine beach will be named after longtime Congressman Frank LoBiondo, who’s final term is coming to an end. A ceremony will be held on the beach on Friday; LoBiondo’s longtime legislative office in Mays Landing closes next week.
There’s a new member of the Avalon Borough Council today. Barbara Juzaitis was sworn in by Avalon Mayor Martin Pagliughi to fill an unexpired term on Council that was vacated by longtime councilman Richard Dean. Juzaitis’ term runs through the end of June, 2019.
Manny Diaz will be introduced as the next head football coach of the Temple Owls. The Philadelphia school will hold a press conference today to announce that Diaz is the pick to replace Geoff Collins. Diaz is the defensive coordinator at the University of Miami.
A victims’ compensation fund is being advanced by the Archdiocese of Newark. The fund will be financed by the five Catholic dioceses in New Jersey, including Camden. The goal is to essentially write the checks to victims who have been subject to sexual abuse.
The Cape May City Police Department has issued a warning to parents to be aware of an internet game called “The Momo Challenge”. The game is spread through an app and encourages children to perform dangerous tasks. The app has also been linked to popular social media sites.
An announcement is expected this morning regarding an investigation into the wrestling program at the Arthur P. Schalick High School in Salem County. CBS3 reports that school district has confirmed an investigation that included both students and staff. Results could be announced by the Prosecutor’s Office later today.
The Marshall’s retail store in Cape May Court House is moving, but staying in Middle Township. The Cape May County Herald reports that the store will be eventually moving to an empty location at the Grande Center in Rio Grande, but no date has been set.
