One person was killed during a motor vehicle accident in Bridgeton Monday morning. Police say the accident occurred on North Burlington Road shortly before sunrise. The vehicle overturned and stopped near a tree. The driver was the only occupant of the car.
The Cape May County Police Academy has received a national award from the National Association of Counties. The award was given to Cape May County for its ability to meet the needs of a changing law enforcement environment. The nomination highlighted the Academy’s driving simulator, indoor range, and the de-escalation program.
The state navigation channels in the Barnegat Bay that had been loaded with silt and sediment are again safe for navigation. The New Jersey Department of Transportation announced that the channels have been safely dredged and will be open before Memorial Day weekend. Many of those channels were filled with sediment during Hurricane Sandy.
The United States Coast Guard has suspended its search for a missing boater in the Delaware River. The Guard announced Tuesday afternoon that the search has been suspended after two days turned up no results. The man was on board a small boat that capsized Monday.
Atlantic County residents will not see an increase in taxes this year. Atlantic County Executive Dennis Levinson announced that the county budget totals $217.5 million and includes no increase in the county tax rate. $8.3 million in refunds will be offered; most of that money will go to Atlantic City.
The mayors of Woodbine and Cape May were included in a meeting Saturday with Governor Phil Murphy to discuss the challenges facing smaller communities in the Garden State. Infrastructure and transportation funding were two of the main topics discussed by the panel of elected officials with the Governor.
A portion of Surf Avenue in North Wildwood will be closed to traffic on Tuesday. North Wildwood Police announced that Surf Avenue between 7th and 11th streets will be closed today for a paving of the roadway; use an alternate route.
Packages have gone missing, and now security cameras are coming to Cape May’s Victorian Towers. The Cape May Star and Wave reports that Council has endorsed the installation of the cameras at the building that is downed by the Diocese of Camden. There have been packages and mail both reported missing at the Towers.
Wildwood Catholic’s Charles Fields won the 100 meter dash race at the South Jersey Non Public B sectional meet on Monday. Fields posted a time of 11.02 seconds in the race.
