Lower Township Police have identified the woman who died during a house fire in the Villas as Melody Murphy. Murphy’s home went up in smoke and flames on Florida Avenue Friday morning. Murphy died of carbon monoxide poisoning as a result of the fire, which is still under investigation.
An early morning traffic accident on Route 9 in Middle Township on Saturday resulted in charges filed against the 25 year old driver. It was a huge win on the hard court for the Wildwood Catholic basketball program Sunday. The Crusaders knocked off the Patrick School at the Seagull Classic, 56-42. Taj Thweatt scored 30 points for Wildwood Catholic in the victory. The Patrick School is one of the mostly highly ranked programs in the state annually.
A win, and a loss, for the Ocean City basketball program at the Seagull Classic Sunday afternoon at Holy Spirit High School. The boys team knocked off Howell, 66-56, while the girls’ team fell to Lenape, 54-32. Ocean City girls dropped to 5-3 on the young season.
Two men are wanted in connection with the armed robbery of a gas station in Vineland last Thursday. Police say the men held up a U.S. Petroleum gas station on West Landis Avenue and fled after the holdup. One was armed with a handgun.
Middle Township has alerted the community about a repaving project along Dias Creek Road on Monday morning. Traffic will be detoured during the day during the construction process. Traffic will be detoured to Hand Avenue; residents will still have access to their homes.
A man was shot and killed inside the Sunset Inn Motel in Atlantic City Friday night. WPVI-TV reports that the wounded man was found inside the motel shortly before 9pm Friday. The unidentified victim was pronounced dead later in the night at a city hospital.
36 year old Lashawn Smith of Egg Harbor Township has confessed to killing his girlfriend with a hammer while she slept. Sarah Phillips was killed by four hammer blows to the head at home on South Zion Road in November, 2017. Smith will have to serve 40 years behind bars.
Ocean City will be holding a public meeting next weekend to discuss affordable housing plans and obligations. The state courts are now in charge of making sure affordable housing opportunities are met. The meeting will be held January 12th at the Ocean City Tabernacle on Wesley Avenue.
