As expected, the Philadelphia Flyers traded one of their best players on Monday. The Flyers traded Wayne Simmonds to the Nashville Predators for right winger Ryan Hartman and a fourth round draft pick. Simmonds was going to be an unrestricted free agent in July.
Some local fire departments were called for a mutual aid request for a reported structure fire in Sea Isle City. The call went out shortly before 2:30pm on Monday for a property at 5912 Pleasure Avenue. Google Maps shows a three story residential property at that location. Strong wind gusts continue to pound the Jersey Shore, and will continue to do so through the early afternoon hours. The National Weather Service has maintained a High Wind Warning through the afternoon rush hour. A wind gust of 51mph was recorded Monday at Avalon’s weather station adjacent to its public safety building.
Power outages continue throughout southern New Jersey due to the strong gusty winds in our region. On Monday at 10:30am Atlantic City Electric reported a few hundred power outages in Cape May County, with a few thousand more scattered in Atlantic and Cumberland counties. Authorities say El Joshua has been charged with holding three adult women captive over a period of time and engaging those women in prostitution and other crimes. He’s charged with five counts of human trafficking and other offenses.

Middle Township republicans have announced that Jim Norris will be a candidate to run in the Township Committee election later this year. The Township’s republican organization will hold its endorsement vote on March 5th. If Norris would win the nomination, and the election in November, republicans would hold a 3-0 majority on the Township Committee.
