The cost of tuition is going up at Atlantic Cape Community College. The Press of Atlantic City reports that the Board of Trustees at the college approved a $14 per credit tuition increase earlier this month. College officials say they are refining their offerings.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning for longtime Cape May businessman Bruce Axelson. Axelson died Thursday at the age of 75. He was the past owner of the former Mayer’s Tavern and Captain’s Cove Restaurant, both in Cape May.
Casino profits tumbled in Atlantic City last year at a staggering rate of 15 percent. Part of the reason were more casinos now open in the city, spreading the gaming wealth around to more venues. Only the Tropicana and Golden Nugget increased their operating profits last year.
Republican freeholders may have a fight in this year’s election. The Press of Atlantic City reports that former Middle Township Committeeman Steve Barry and attorney Elizabeth Casey will seek the freeholder seats currently occupied by Gerry Thornton and Marie Hayes. Petitions were due by April 1st.
The Townsend’s Inlet Bridge between Avalon and Sea Isle City will not be open this summer. The County issued a press release Monday afternoon, saying the reconstruction of the bridge on the Avalon side means the bridge won’t open until about “late summer”. The bridge was supposed to be open Memorial Day weekend..that’s not happening.

The former owner of the Ocean Resort Casino in Atlantic City, Bruce Difek, died Sunday in Colorado. The Press of Atlantic City reports that authorities have confirmed the death, with a cause of death being released later in the day. Difek resurrected the former Revel Casino and re-opened it recently.

A man lost his life during a skydiving accident in Williamstown late Sunday afternoon. Police say the man was a veteran of skydiving with more than 1,000 jumps during his lifetime. There was an accident following the deployment of his parachute.
Three people were seriously injured Sunday morning when a Jaguar drove underneath of a tractor trailer on the Atlantic City Expressway. The crash occurred in Hammonton just after sunup. Police say the car drove into the right shoulder and under the truck.
