Avalon is moving towards making 100 percent of its beaches smoke free. Avalon Council discussed a proposal that would reject a 15 percent carveout permitted in state law to make all of its beaches, beach paths, and boardwalk smoke free. Council is expected to further discuss this plan in two weeks.
Pleasantville High School principal Edward Bonek has been accused of child pornography charges. The 48 year old Bonek just wrapped up his first year as principal at the high school. Bonek’s home was subject of a search warrant.
The Board of Trustees at Stockton University have approved a plan that will allow the university to pursue the purchase of the former Atlantic Club Casino in Atlantic City. The vote was unanimous, now the university may speak with TJM Properties about a potential purchase. If the deal moves forward, the casino will be demolished.

The United States Coast Guard airlifted a man off a fishing boat who was experiencing chest pains on Wednesday. Police say the airlift occurred on the fishing boat “Relentless” that was about 70 miles off the coast of Cape May. It’s another court day Thursday in the April Kauffman murder case. The three defendants are all expected in Superior Court, charged with racketeering and other criminal offenses. Kauffman was killed in a murder for hire plot that involved an illegal narcotics ring.
Two northern New Jersey teenagers are dead, drowning in a lake which a vicious thunderstorm rolled through the region on Tuesday. Authorities have confirmed the teens were at Ramapo Lake when the storms arrived. One teen got into trouble in the water; the second teen jumped in for a rescue, and both drowned.
Camden Police say a man walked up to a car with two officers inside it and open fire, discharging as many as two dozen rounds on the officers. One officer inside the car was struck twice in the arm, while another officer was hit in the hand. Police returned fire; no suspects are in custody.
The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office has reported potential conflicts of interest as it investigates the alleged sexual assault of four women at the campus of Stockton University. Four women have sued the school; there are some family ties between the prosecutor’s office, and the university.
Police in Millville are looking for the suspects who are committing vandalism at the Rieck Avenue Elementary School. Authorities have found broken windows and trash can fires at the school. Police believe the vandals are throwing rocks at the windows.
