Wildwood Police say two people have been arrested after a motel owner in the city found a loaded gun in one of his units. There will be no government shutdown in New Jersey over a budget stalemate. Governor Murphy announced Thursday that he will sign a state budget on Sunday, and government will remain open. However, Murphy is expected to cut significant funding from the budget since the legislature has not agreed to a millionaires’ tax.
68 year old Robert Girardo of Ocean City and three others have all been charged with scamming money out of a Superstorm Sandy relief program. Girardo has been charged with taking over $130,000 from the program for which he was not entitled. He is charged with second degree theft by deception.
A construction company that does plenty of work for Atlantic City Electric and other companies has been sued by 14 ex employees who allege they lost money from their retirement accounts for years. Wednesday was the final Borough Council meeting for Avalon’s Chuck Covington. Covington wrapped up nearly three decades of public service with his final meeting on Wednesday. Covington did not seek re-election; he will be replaced on Council by Sam Wierman.
Governor Phil Murphy is calling on lawmakers in his own party to continue free college tuition under a pilot program enacted this year. Lawmakers have cut funding for the free college program in half in their proposed budget. Murphy is calling on lawmakers to stand with the students.
Some major medical news out of Philadelphia today..after a 171 year run. Hahnemann University Hospital will be closing for good in September. The hospital is closing due to big financial losses, according to a statement. The hospital will close for good on or about September 6th.
Authorities are investigating the discovery of a body that was found this morning near a condominium complex near Ortley Beach. NJ.com reports that the body was found floating in a cove Wednesday morning. Toms River Police say the body has not yet been identified.
