Starting next June, single use plastic bags will not be offered by merchants in Avalon. Borough Council Wednesday night unanimously approved a new ordinance that eliminates single use plastic bags, plastic straws, and styrofoam containers to be issued by merchants. A few other coastal communities in our region have approved similar ordinances.

Hamilton Township, Atlantic County authorities have alerted the public regarding some moderate flooding through the weekend. The flooding will be caused by dams above the Township being opened to release water after seven inches of rainfall. All available flood gates in Mays Landing are now open.
Lower Township Police Wednesday night issued an alert for a missing 43 year old woman. Police say Carmen Rosario is reported missing and was last seen in the Villas one month ago. Rosario frequents Wildwood and Wildwood Crest. She is described as a Hispanic female, with black hair and blue eyes.

Governor Phil Murphy is telling New Jersey residents to be prepared for some foul weather courtesy of Hurricane Florence. Florence is still a Carolina landfall storm event, but wind and rain are possible for our region during the start of the weekend. Murphy says Cape May, Cumberland, and Salem Counties could feel the worst impact.
After four million riders, the Flitzer rides off into the sunset on September 23rd. The 30-year old roller coaster on Morey’s Pier will be the subject of a final farewell party on Sunday, September 23rd according to the Pier’s social media page. The Flitzer roller coaster was first installed in 1983.
Atlantic City Electric says it’s ready just in case our region gets any effects from Hurricane Florence. The utility says it has additional overhead line contractors and tree trimming personnel in case high winds impact its service area. Atlantic City Electric recently provided restoration assistance in Puerto Rico.
Woodbine has received a $44,800 federal grant to be put towards the purchase of a new fire pumper truck for its volunteer fire department. Officials say the the funding will supplement a much larger grant the Borough received last year for the fire truck purchase.
