Medically-assisted suicides are now legal in the Garden State. Today is the day where the new law takes effect that allows terminally ill patients to make end of life decisions. Two doctors must sign off on the medication, and the patient has to administer the dose to his or her own body.
A bolt of lightning likely struck the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge between South Jersey and Philadelphia Wednesday afternoon. Some toll booth machines were not working for the evening rush, and officials say it’s likely that lightning struck a toll booth. Confirmation regarding the strike may come Thursday.
36 year old Lori Zamichieli of Wildwood Crest was charged by Borough police with DUI and other offenses following a traffic stop Sunday evening. Crest Police announced on its social media page that authorities found knives, suspected marijuana, and hash oil inside her car. Zamichieli was released on a summons.
Atlantic City Mayor Frank Gilliam ordered firemen to fill a temporary pool at the Chelsea Beach Bar. Now, the local MUA wants to be paid. The Press of Atlantic City reports that the pool was filled two weeks ago from an unmetered hydrant. Gilliam has provided no comment to the report.

The annual baby parade is being postponed by one day due to a threat of significant rainfall later today. Registration will be held tomorrow at 4:30pm, with the actual parade stepping off at 6pm.

40 non-residential Superfund sites are being cleaned up in Vineland. The Environmental Protection Agency says these sites are affiliated with the former Kil-Tone pesticide company that operated in the city. Sites have been contaminated with arsenic and lead.
West Wildwood needs to fill a position on its Borough Commission, and the deadline for interested residents to get on the ballot is September 3rd. The Borough needs to fill an unexpired seat on the Commission and the November election provides the first opportunity to do so. The election will be held November 5th.
