The Middle Township Committee meets this evening with generally routine business listed on the agenda. The Committee is expected to conduct the swearing in of a new police sergeant, Brian Murphy. The Committee is also expected to establish responsible bidder requirements for those bidding on public construction projects.
Senator Cory Booker has qualified for November’s democratic presidential debates. Booker has achieved the fundraising threshold, and also has earned three percent support in latest polling. Booker also has over 165,000 donors to his campaign.
The Wildwood City Commission meets Wednesday afternoon and is expected to consider an ordinance that would include the Uniform Property Maintenance Code as a standard for determining if a building is unfit for human habitation. Wildwood was the scene of a deck collapse that injured more than 20 people last month.
Ocean City had a big test Friday night on the gridiron and were easily handled by St. Augustine Prep, 35-3 in a game broadcast by Tom Williams on 106.3 the Shore. Tips continue to pour in to law enforcement relating to the whereabouts of a missing five year old girl from Bridgeton. Over 1,000 tips have been provided to authorities as the search for Dulce Alavez continues. She has been missing since September 16th.
Marty Small is the new mayor of Atlantic City. Small has been sworn in to the position that was vacated less than 24 hours ago by Frank Gilliam, who pleaded guilty in federal court to stealing money from a basketball club. Small was the president of the city council.
Wildwood Crest is doing a good job with managing its finances. Crest officials announced that Moody’s Investor Service has issued an Aa3 bond rating to the Crest for its financial management practices. Mayor Don Cabrera commended the work by fellow commissioners and the Borough’s finance office with the positive bond rating.
All fans who attend football games at Vineland High School must have photo ID, or they will not be allowed inside Gittone Stadium. Governor Phil Murphy is now asking for the public’s help with providing leads that will direct authorities to a missing Bridgeton girl. Murphy has called for anyone with information about the disappearance of Dulce Alavez to step forward. Murphy says those who do provide information are immune from any immigration actions by authorities.
West Nile Virus has been found in Cape May County, and the County’s health department has issued an advisory. West Nile has been found in Tuckahoe, Woodbine, Green Creek, and the Villas. The department says residents should exercise caution when outside in areas where mosquitos are found.
