About 1,400 jobs are coming to South Jersey courtesy of a new Inspira hospital located right off Route 55 near Rowan University. NJ.com reports that the jobs are currently being filled, with 100 open positions on the Inspira website. Open houses continue at the site in an attempt to fill the positions.
Southwest Airlines is pulling out of Newark Liberty International Airport, come November. The airline announced the move Thursday morning and says it will continue flying out of New York City. Southwest claims poor financial results are the reason for leaving the Garden State.
The body of a man was found on the water’s edge Wednesday afternoon at the Sandy Hook National Park in New Jersey. Authorities say the body was recovered and no identity has been released yet. There is no determination of the cause of death; family is being notified.
Cape May city police are warning residents about an increasing number of telephone scams in the region. The callers are asking for debt or credit card information, and in some cases, represent themselves as being from a utility company. Police say no valid agency collects true debts in this manner.
The Wildwood City Commission will meet later this afternoon. The Commission is expected to recognize Crest Savings Bank for a recent contribution to the Byrne Community Center. The Commission is expected to authorize various applications for capital projects, and may adopt a bond ordinance for capital improvements.
The Avalon Borough Council meets this afternoon. Council is expected to receive information from its municipal engineer regarding a new bulkhead project on the west side of 21st Street, and about a street paving project on 47th Street. Avalon’s meeting begins at 4pm.
The West Cape May Borough Commission meets this evening and is expected to reappoint its municipal clerk, Suzanne Schumann, with tenure. The Commission will also introduce a new $1.3 million bond ordinance that would finance various capital improvements. The meeting begins at 7pm.
Miss America is leaving Atlantic City, again. The organization has signed a deal to have the 2020 pageant at a casino in Connecticut. The event will also move from its traditional September date to less than a week before Christmas.
Sea Isle City officials claim the State erroneously concluded that retired fire chief Frank Edwardi did not hold the proper certifications to be the chief. Edwardi is now re-submitting his paperwork to New Jersey to clear his name, but he has not actively led the department in over a year due to health issues.
North Wildwood is warning people about an unexpected consequence of charging older golf carts, or low speed vehicles. City officials released a statement from the fire department saying that carbon monoxide detectors have gone off because people are charging their golf carts, which can emit high levels of hydrogen.
