A federal judge has decided that New Jersey’s mask mandate for school students is legal and will stay in place. Opponents said the mask mandate was unnecessary. Federal Judge Kevin McNulty ruled in favor of the State.
Councilman Keith Hartzell will run for the mayor’s spot in Ocean City next spring. Hartzell announced that he will formally challenge Mayor Jay Gillian for the city’s top elected position. Hartzell says there are several big issues in the city including flooding and a new public safety building that could cost over $40 million.
30 people from New Jersey have lost their lives from Hurricane Ida in the Garden State. Governor Murphy updated the death toll during a coronavirus briefing on Monday. New Jersey has lost more than twice as many lives as those lost in Louisiana where the storm made landfall.
Wildwood Police are mourning the death of former longtime Patrolman Kerry Higgs. Higgs served the Wildwood Police Department for nearly three decades before retiring 18 years ago. He also previously served as a corrections officer.
Wildwood police have recovered a handgun following a home invasion robbery Friday afternoon along Andrews Avenue in the city. Police say 20 year old Charles T. A 46 year old man from Galloway Township was killed during a motorcycle accident on the Black Horse Pike. Joseph Seif III was riding a Harley when he crashed near Elmwood Avenue in Cardiff Saturday afternoon. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
Christian McCaffrey of the Carolina Panthers has signed three Lower Cape May Regional High School football jerseys as part of Friday’s Military Appreciation game against Lindenwold. Many communities throughout southern New Jersey held 911 memorial events over the weekend. Avalon’s featured a visit from former congressman Frank LoBiondo, who spoke about his experience in the Nation’s capital when the attack occurred. Several local communities have established 911 memorials.
The Powerball jackpot now stands at $416 million. There were no winners in the last drawing, which means the next drawing Monday night will carry a cash out value of over $300 million. Drawings are held three times per week.
A 60 year old woman lost her life in Hammonton Saturday night when she tried to cross the South White Horse Pike on foot. Police say a pickup truck driven by a Margate man struck the woman, and killed her. The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with police.
