43 year old Santos Blanco of Atlantic City was in court just before the weekend and admitted to sexually assaulting two boys. Atlantic County authorities say Blanco will now face 12 years in prison for the crimes. One of the children was assaulted over a duration of several years.
The Cape May County Chamber of Commerce is calling Monday’s media event “Save our Sea”. The Chamber is again holding a public event to protest proposed seismic testing in the Atlantic Ocean. Seismic testing could be held as early as next month as a way to test for offshore fuel opportunities for the United States.
Sea Isle City’s council meets Tuesday and is expected to introduce an ordinance that will set certain regulations for how and when motor vehicles can drive on flooded streets. Council is also expected to approve a resolution that allows the city to take bids regarding ice cream and kayak franchise agreements.
It’s budget night in Upper Township. The Township Committee will meet at 7:00pm and is expected to formally introduce this year’s spending plan. Council is expected to go into closed session to discuss some contract negotiations.
Cape May County will once again hold a program to help train drivers to attain CDL licenses. County officials announced today that the program will be again offered through One-Stop Career Center. A recruitment session will be held on Friday.
3,200 pounds of cocaine have been seized at a Newark port, worth approximately $77 million. Authorities say this is the biggest drug bust at the port in nearly a quarter century. The seizure took place on February 28th.
Wildwood Crest and Wildwood now have a shared services agreement that will bring beach boxes to the Crest beaches, managed by Wildwood. 84 beach boxes will come to the Crest that will be available on a first come, first served basis and allow for temporary storage of beach gear. The cost for a season, $400.
46 year old James Hammer of Barnegat died over the weekend after he accidentally shot himself while taking apart a gun. Police announced his death early this morning. Hammer was airlifted to the Atlantic City Medical Center after the shooting where he later died.
The Mainland girls basketball team won the New Jersey Group III basketball championship Sunday afternoon. Mainland d defeated Chatham 42-35 to win the title in Toms River. This is the first girls basketball state title in Mainland history. They now move on to the Tournament of Champions.
There were no winners in the multi state Powerball lottery drawing Saturday night. The jackpot for Wednesday night’s drawing will rise to $448 million. Someone in Puerto Rico took home a $2 million prize from the Saturday night drawing. The odds of winning are 292.2 million to one.
