Mainland High School basketball star Kylee Watson has been named to the McDonalds’ All American Team. Watson has been invited to attend the annual all star game to be played in Texas on April 1. Watson is the first female player from this region to be selected for the game.
The Ingram’s Thorofare Bridge on Avalon Boulevard in Middle Township will close for two nights next week. County officials announced that the span will be closed both Tuesday and Wednesday nights next week from 7:00pm until 5:00am. It’s anticipated that concrete will be poured as the bridge is being rehabilitated.

The West Cape May Commissioner cites his environmental background as he attempts to get the democratic nomination for the seat currently held by republican Jeff Van Drew. Frank Sippel is the new mayor of Lower Township. Sippel was sworn in during Wednesday night’s council meeting to replace Erik Simonsen, who has moved on to the New Jersey Assembly. Recently Sippel has served as Deputy Mayor of the Township.

Stone Harbor has named former South Jersey assemblyman Robert Smith as its new business administrator. Smith replaces Jill Gougher, who is retiring at the end of next week. Smith recently served as administrator in Kearny.

Former Ocean County republican party chairman George Gilmore was sentenced today to slightly over one year in prison. Gilmore was convicted last spring of federal tax evasion charges. An appeal by Gilmore’s legal team is expected.
