A search is underway at the home of Atlantic City Mayor Frank Gilliam. Both the FBI and the IRS showed up at Gilliam’s home this morning in an official capacity to search the domicile. Both agencies are expected to spend the day at his residence.
The Lower Township Council will vote on a resolution Monday that joins with the County to develop an economic plan for the Cape May Airport, in Erma. The transfer of a liquor license from Marie Nicole’s also appears on the agenda. Monday’s meeting begins at 7:00pm.
Sentencing is scheduled for later this week for 62 year old Ferdinand Augello of Upper Township. He is the man accused of killing April Kauffman inside her home as part of an organized hit conducted by her husband. Augello was convicted in October on six charges.
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy is now the chairman of the Democratic Governors Association in advance of the 2020 presidential election. The duties assigned to Murphy could keep him out of the Garden State for extended periods of time. The organization raises money for democratic candidates to help get them elected.
A longtime fixture in the Wildwood Police Department has retired. Well wishes are coming in for Eli Aboud (right in photo) who is retiring after a career in the department that spanned three decades. Aboud has been a well-known fixture in the Department for years and has worked with many community organizations.
St. Joseph’s of Hammonton is the New Jersey Non Public II football champions for 2018. St. Joseph’s defeated Holy Spirit, 41-22 in the title game that was played at MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands. Thousands of fans made the trek from South Jersey for the game.
Matthew Cox is the newest member of the Dennis Township Committee. Cox was elected by voters last month to fill an unexpired term that ends in December, 2019. Cox was sworn in to office on Tuesday.
The 41st President of the United States has died. George H.W. Bush passed away Friday night at the age of 94. Bush has been experiencing health problems in recent years. President Trump has approved some authorizations that will permit seismic testing in the Atlantic Ocean in an attempt to find fuel reserves. The measure received a blowback from key lawmakers in New Jersey, and tourism interests along our shoreline. This type of testing has not been done locally since the 1980s.
The superintendent of the Lower Cape May Regional School District will retire in June. The Press of Atlantic City reports that Chris Kobik will retire next summer. The retirement was announced at this month’s school board meeting.
