Mainland’s Chase Petty is heading to Minnesota. The Twins selected the former Mainland Mustang pitcher in the first round of Sunday’s baseball draft, 26th overall. Petty can throw 100 miles per hour and was the best pitcher in high school baseballl this season in New Jersey.
Wildwood Police issued an advisory Friday night about a sinkhole that formed on a portion of Ocean Avenue. The road is closed in both directions in the 4800 block due to the sinkhole. Police suggesting using Atlantic Avenue as an alternate route.
The speed limit on Lower Township’s Bay Drive is dropping from 35mph to 25mph. Township Police announced Friday that an ordinance has been approved that lowers the speed limit from Mallow Road to Wildwood Avenue. New signs have been posted, and officers are patrolling the area. There is an emergency road closure in southern Atlantic County Friday as a result of downed poles caused by Tropical Storm Elsa. Officials say Somers Point-Longport Boulevard was closed Friday morning between Bay Avenue in Somers Point to Ocean Drive in Longport until the roadway is safe again.
Avalon and Stone Harbor have jointly announced the resumption of Jitney service between both communities. The Jitneys will begin providing service Thursday through Sunday evenings in both communities starting Friday. The fare for each ride is three dollars.
